# Waypoint Internal Canon — the LIFE Path Model (extraction-ready reference)

**Status:** research-phase corpus note, v1 — compiled 2026-07-16 for the Waypoint research pass (spec §10, Lane 1 "internal canon").
**Compiled from four primary sources (the canon):**

| ID | Source | Path | Nature |
|----|--------|------|--------|
| S1 | Surya teacher call, "Meditation Path and Project Overview" (audio transcript, recorded for app resource materials) | `~/LIFE/archive/old-transcripts/Meditation Path and Poject Overview.txt` | Verbatim ASR transcript, 873 lines. Contains ASR noise; garbles are flagged where load-bearing. |
| S2 | *Stages of Meditation* diagram (1-page PDF) | `~/LIFE/content/source/meditation-path/0. Stages of Meditation/Stages of Meditation.pdf` | Node/arrow diagram of the 5 stages × 4 pillars ladder. |
| S3 | *PROGRESSION OF THE WORK* diagram (1-page PDF) | `~/LIFE/content/source/meditation-path/PROGRESSION OF THE WORK.pdf` | Gantt-like unlock diagram of app content build/progression. Uses an older, divergent naming scheme (see §9). |
| S4 | Wheel Table seed data (parsed from `Wheel Tabel.numbers` via numbers-parser) | `~/LIFE/benchmarking/stages-of-meditation-eval/data/wheel-canvas/seed.json` | stageBands (10), scaleRows (100), traditions (13 mapped of 17 in SOME), blocks (tradition→range mappings). Note: its `source.numbers_path` records the pre-reorg path `~/LIFE/MEDITATION PATH/…` — stale pointer, same artifact. |

Secondary context: `~/LIFE/CLAUDE.md` "The Meditation Path (Wheel of Life)" section (house summary of the same model — treated as derived, not canonical; cited as CM where it adds named lists the transcript garbles).

All quotes below are verbatim from S1 unless marked otherwise, including ASR errors (marked `[sic]` or annotated). Where the canon is ambiguous or internally inconsistent, the ambiguity is recorded in place and consolidated in §9 — nothing is smoothed.

## 1. The Wheel — construct and provenance

The Wheel of Life is Surya's master map (begun 2017, "ongoing, always… changing and evolving instrument"): a 1–100% scale over the whole arc of emergence (Big Bang → life → mind → contemplative path → post-enlightenment → cosmological closure), with the meditation path occupying the human-relevant upper-middle. Explicit design inspiration:

> "I was very inspired by the Hawkins Levels of Consciousness because they are a bit basic as a principle, but this idea that you can quantify numerically the meditation path, I think is genius because only numerically you can have enough detail benchmarking how the meditation path looks like." (S1)

> "I did a big work in 2017 to try to map whatever there is beyond 1,000, like in actual advanced states of the spiritual path. I arrived to this scale. I used a 1 million scale that is combined with the Level of Consciousness." (S1)

So every scale point carries a Hawkins-LOC-extension value (S4 `hawkins_level`, LOC 0 → LOC 1.000.000). The Wheel is cyclic ("everything expands and then collapse… like the breath of Brahman") and doubles as a cross-tradition Rosetta: each tradition's stage ladder is a block-range overlay on the same 1–100 axis (§8).

Waypoint-relevant framing (spec §3): humans practically occupy **22–62**; app users mostly **22–45**.

## 2. The 10 wheel bands (S4 `stageBands`, verbatim)

| Band | Title | Range | Human-relevant? |
|------|-------|-------|-----------------|
| Stage 1 | Emergence | 1–10 | No (cosmological) |
| Stage 2 | Life | 11–20 | No (biological) |
| Stage 3 | Intelligence | 21–30 | Yes — pre-path humanity; app users enter here |
| Stage 4 | Awareness | 31–40 | Yes — core app band |
| Stage 5 | Awakening | 41–50 | Yes — core app band (upper end rare in-app) |
| Stage 6 | Unbinding | 51–60 | Yes — live-transmission territory, highest support need |
| Stage 7 | Enlightenment | 61–70 | Yes — rare; practical human ceiling ≈62 per spec |
| Stage 8 | Blazing Bliss | 71–80 | Canonically defined; not expected in population |
| Stage 9 | Rainbow Body | 81–90 | Canonically defined; esoteric |
| Stage 10 | Infinity | 91–100 | Cosmological closure |

⚠ Numbering collision: wheel **bands** are numbered 1–10; the **app path stages** are numbered 1–5 with overlapping names (app Stage 1 "Awareness" ≠ wheel Stage 4 "Awareness" band, etc.). See §9-A. In extraction, always disambiguate "wheel band" vs "path stage".

Extraction note: within 22–62 (the practical human range) the scale-point names are effectively a **milestone/phase sequence**, not just labels — Surya narrates the path (S1) in nearly the same order the rows read (glimpses → recognition → dissociation → expansion → devotional/mystical (~46) → compassion → detachment → equanimity → small death → unbinding → low-pain/pleasure/meaning/empathy/knowledge → non-dual loop → deconstruction → void → luminosity → enlightenment → stabilization → integration → reconstruction → clarity → intensification → escalation → resonance → mergence → blazing bliss). He even indexes it live: "I'm now here now and 46% is kind of this idea" (S1, mid-sentence while pointing at the mystical/devotional region of the wheel). The per-point phenomenology quotes are in §6–7.

## 4. The five app-facing path stages and the Trika frame

Canonical stage list (S2 headers, verbatim):

| Path stage | S2 header | Trika role |
|------------|-----------|-----------|
| STAGE 1: Awareness | "Ground: Preparation" | Ground — basic mindfulness across the four pillars |
| STAGE 2: Awakening | "Outer Path: Generation" | Mahayoga — structured skill-building, four parallel paths |
| STAGE 3: Unbinding | "Inner Path: Completion" | Anu Yoga — internal alchemy, energy, merging |
| STAGE 4: Enlightenment | "Secret Path: Actualisation" | Atiyoga — Trekchö (emptiness) + Tögal (luminosity) |
| STAGE 5: Blazing Bliss | "Fruit: Realisation" | Fruit — "not even a more path, it's kind of the final thing" (S1) |

⚠ S1 once lists the five stages as "awareness, there is awakening, there is unbinding, there is **alignment**, there is blazing bliss" — "alignment" where every other source says Enlightenment (likely ASR garble of "enlightenment", possibly a real alternate term: elsewhere S1 says Atiyoga gives "these moments of alignment"). Recorded, not resolved (§9-B).

Trika logic (S1): "the whole universe goes through generation, completion, actualization… also the meditation path goes through… the ground, the outer path, then you have usually the inner path, the secret path" — and fractal: **a single session should also traverse Mahayoga → Anu Yoga → Atiyoga** ("in one meditation session, technically you should go across the Mahayoga, the Anu yoga, the Atiyoga, and the magic happens. This is the way of the Mahasiddhas").

App scope (hard boundary, teacher-stated):

> "these first two stages fully is what the app will be about… Then the stage three, in my experience, starts already to need a strong interaction, a living transmission and collective dynamics that you can't have if you practice alone. Maybe the initial part of the stage three can be done probably live, online even… but then it's all about advanced retreats… you need small groups." (S1)

### 4.1 Stage 1 — Awareness (sub-practices 1.1–1.6)

Canonical sub-practice list (CM numbering; S1 confirms content; S3 uses divergent numbering — §9-C):

- **1.1 Posture & Mobility** — "alignment, body alignment of different body sections, posture, a bit of postural training, and then a bit of mobility that usually goes in more sophisticated stretching… unless you sit down in meditation, it's a mess. All the body is cramped." (S1). Done once per day (first session only).
- **1.2 Opening & Closure** — how to begin/end a session (CM; in S1 as "opening and closing, how to open and close the meditation").
- **1.3 Sensations** — body awareness.
- **1.4 Emotions** — emotional awareness.
- **1.5 Thoughts** — mental awareness.
- **1.6 Awareness** — "you start to put the awareness on the awareness itself… start to point the attention on the attention itself." (S1)

Session grammar: additive unlock (S3 shows the accretion). Full Stage-1 session = Posture → Mobility → Opening → Sensations → Emotions → Thoughts → Awareness → Closure. "A full meditation session should move you across the systems because sensations, emotions, thoughts, and awareness is kind of a cascade of experience that if you connect it enough, you have this kind of magic that happens." (S1). Completion gate: **7 sessions** of the full combined meditation ("They have to complete seven sessions of this practice").

Stage 1 timeline: "This is very fast. A few days each" (S1) — no precise canonical total.

### 4.2 Stage 2 — Awakening (four parallel paths, 2.1–2.4)

"Each one of these is like a path in itself." Practitioners may interleave freely ("they can dip in each one of these… Maybe they have a period they want to focus more on the love… Gradually, the important thing is they develop all of them"), max one session per exercise per day.

| Path | Pillar | Endpoint skill | Cadence | Canon timeline |
|------|--------|----------------|---------|----------------|
| 2.1 Breathwork | Sensations | **Reverse Breathing** | 14 sessions (~2 weeks) per exercise | **120 days** (S1); S3: "9 Steps (14 sessions each)" ⚠ S1 also says Neidan classically "has eight stages of breathwork"; CM names 7 — see §9-D |
| 2.2 Love | Emotions | **Boundless Care** (metta) | 10 days per practice | **90 days**, "nine steps" (S1) ⚠ CM names 7 — §9-D |
| 2.3 Clarity | Thoughts | **Clear Vision** | 5 days per contemplation | **85 days** (S1) |
| 2.4 Intrinsic Awareness | Awareness | **Awakening** (glimpses) | 7 days per practice | **98 days** (S1) |

Whole-path timeline: "The total pattern the other day, the maximum usually if you practice well is kind of around 12 days [sic — ASR garble], that is around **one year and two months**." (S1). The four sub-path totals sum to 393 days ≈ 13 months, consistent with "one year and two months" including Stage 1; treat "~14 months to complete Stages 1–2 practicing well" as the canonical figure and "12 days" as noise.

**2.1 Breathwork (Neidan internal alchemy).** "Usually the best way to stay in touch with sensations is breathwork… The practice that I teach, they come all from these traditions, these Chinese traditions, Neidan practice… I haven't found these breathwork practices in any other tradition I've studied." (S1). Sequence (CM names; S1 confirms shape): Abdominal Breathing → Activation of Navel/Ming Men → Belt of Qi → Complete Breathing → Fast Inhalation/Exhalation → Mantle Breathing → Reverse Breathing. Terminal behavior: "until you are able to do reverse breathing properly, you do only reverse breathing. All the training gets you to the final step in which you only need to do reverse breathing. That's what you do from there on." (S1)

**2.2 Love (compassion training).** Buddhist-structured, de-cosmologized for Westerners ("without the Buddhist cosmology in the back… without having to believe in reincarnation"), blended with positive psychology. S1 sequence: "you move emotional intelligence, self-acceptance, equanimity, kindness, empathy, compassion, natural force [sic — likely 'boundless care'], and then you go down the scale. This is nine steps… 10 days each." CM list: Emotional Intelligence → Self-Acceptance → Equanimity → Kindness → Empathy → Compassion (Friends → Neutral → Foes) → Boundless Care. (If Compassion's three targets count separately, 7 named items = 9 steps; unconfirmed — §9-D.)

**2.3 Clarity (mind training).** Lam-rim structure minus "cultural folkloristic aspects", plus Western coaching. S1: beliefs → impermanence (of art/circumstances/life: "You are going to die") → moment of dying → release & surrender → true meaning → own values ("I make people create their own values… much more tailor-made") → dynamic visualization via memories ("Use memories… much easier to visualise things that you don't know… initially you visualise it, then you embody it… like a theater… then you reflect… how to manifest… then imagine how you can offer it to the world") → mission → personal mantra → **Clear Vision** ("a visualisation… using sound and using language, using dynamic visualisations and reflections"). Notebook journaling explicitly encouraged ("you end the meditation, you can take notes"). CM condenses: Nature of Thoughts/Beliefs → Impermanence → Moment of Dying → Surrender & Release → True Meaning → Core Values → Best Self (Remember/Embody/Manifest/Offer) → Life Mission → Personal Mantra → Clear Vision.

**2.4 Intrinsic Awareness (Atiyoga preparation).** S1 sequence, one week each: "You start from releasing resistance, releasing control, releasing identification, then… inquiring the subject, then inquiring the object… classical dual awareness contemplation. Then you contemplate the concept of emergence… the dreamlike natural life [sic — dream-like nature of life]… flatten these hierarchical processes in the brain and entropy in the brain… increased momentum, that is these elements of increased intensity in the experience… the cut-in through [sic — cutting through]… cut through the mind, and then the construct [sic — deconstruct] the mind… until you get to the concept of awakening, and potentially even to the experience of awakening if you practice well." ⚠ Content incomplete at recording time: "I think we made only the first four… there could be some changes in the structure." (§9-E)

Also inside Stage 2's awareness work, the attention ladder (S2 boxes + S1):

> "if you train enough focused attention, this becomes a sort of very under-intentioned [sic — per S2: **Altered State**]. If you train enough open awareness, they become **non-dual awareness**. This is a ladder here." (S1)

S2 Stage-2 top row (the generation-phase attainments): **Reverse Breathing · Boundless Care · Clear Vision · Altered State · Non-Dual Awareness**.

### 4.3 Stage 3 — Unbinding (Inner Path: Completion / Anu Yoga)

Not app-delivered. Entry transformation is a **pillar remapping**, stated precisely:

> "There is only one change that you need to do in the next stage that is switching this first pillar with this… reverse breathing goes here. This is called reverse breath work because it's kind of a sophisticated version of reverse breathing… usually you do reverse breathing in contraction. Then you learn to do it with apnea or a more sophisticated version of it… And the clear vision actually goes at the beginning. It is the beginning of the generation phase. So you always start with a clear intention." (S1)

S2 Stage-3 rows (verbatim boxes): lower — **Clear Intention → Boundless Passion → Reverse Breathwork → Ignition ← Deconstruction**; upper — **Clear Prayer → Boundless Vow → Internal Alchemy → Luminosity ↔ Emptiness**, with **Awakening ↔ Unbinding** between the rows. Practice logic:

> "You start with a clear intention. Then you create this strong emotional engagement with that intention, boundless care, boundless passion and devotion… then you move more towards what is Anu Yoga, that is the actual alchemy of fusion emergence… you engage your mind… all your emotions… all your sensations incredibly deeply. You merge one with it. And then if you do enough focused attention with death [sic — likely 'with that'], you create this kind of **ignition** that then helps you to intensify the states of non-dual awareness. If you do it enough, usually ignition becomes glimpses of awakening and very intense glimpses of awakening. Usually the **deconstruction ignites what we call unbinding**." (S1)

Content: deeper internal alchemy (Six Yogas of Naropa elements, Tummo as classic Anu Yoga), proto-cessation ("small death"), dark-night phases, equanimity training, non-dual loop navigation (CM; all traceable to S1 quotes in §6–7). Delivery: initial part live/online, then "advanced retreats… small groups."

### 4.4 Stage 4 — Enlightenment (Secret Path: Actualisation / Atiyoga)

> "awakening becomes the experience of **luminosity**. Unbinding becomes the experience of **emptiness**. And this is the key junction practices because the **Tögal is the luminosity and the Trekchö is the emptiness, the cutting through**… If you combine all together, you practice well, you are able to merge them into enlightenment." (S1)

Prerequisite chain: "Tögal and Trekchö needs a proper Mahayoga and [Anu] yoga practice right before them… The Trekchö is easier to do, but the Tögal is almost impossible if you don't have enough energy." (S1) — this is why very few teach them: "no one teaches them today because very few figure out how to combine all this together."

### 4.5 Stage 5 — Blazing Bliss (Fruit)

> "If you do this for enough time, enlightenment becomes so intense, you get the blazing blaze. If you're doing this enough time, the blazing blaze, this becomes the rainbow [body]." (S1)

The "Blazing Blaze Practice" is the most advanced documented practice ("the final practice that usually I always teach on the path, very few people… It's very rare that people reach this stage"), already structured in sections mirroring the path itself; content covers "how to do all the practice until the Tögal and Trekchö and the secret instructions… the classical instructions of Dzogchen." (S1)

## 5. The four pillars

> "You have these key elements that are usually **sensations, emotions, thoughts, and awareness. This is our toolkit as a practitioner.** It's not that we have infinite things we can do… Actually, we don't have much more than this to work with." (S1)

Provenance: "This was a model created by my father many years ago, slightly renamed in a slightly different way." Ontology: emotions are "the patterns that emerges across these sensations… a symbolic version of the sensations. And then you compress enough, you have totes [sic — thoughts], even more symbolic and obstructive [sic — abstracted] version of the same thing. They are all the same thing, our body, our nervous system, our mind, is all a compressed version of the same thing." The cascade runs both directions: "sensations… transform into feelings and emotions, and then feelings and emotions transform into symbolic images and thoughts, and then thoughts goes back to be emotions, feelings, and they go back to sensations, they go back to action. There is this cascade that you learn to recognise and work with." (S1)

Pillar → Stage-2 path mapping: sensations→Breathwork (2.1), emotions→Love (2.2), thoughts→Clarity (2.3), awareness→Intrinsic Awareness (2.4). Waypoint implication (spec §3): development is uneven across pillars; the pillar profile is first-class.

## 6. Attainment milestones — canon phenomenology (quoted)

Ordered by wheel position. Each entry: milestone, wheel anchor, and the canon's own words.

**Awakening glimpses / first glimpses** (~41, "Awakening"; first accessible at end of 2.4):
> "you start to have these kind of glimpses of intense states of awareness and direct awareness of reality around you… you kind of start to see reality as it really is and not as your model is and you start to aware of the model itself or the weirdness itself." — "initially it's kind of glimpses and flashes and brief moments in your meditation practice that is mostly suffering, but at some point becomes more and more intense, these kind of flashes of awakening." (S1)

**Recognition** (42):
> "the more you start at some point to recognize this, it makes sense, this is what I've been experiencing all along. This is the thing that I'm looking at." (S1)

**Dissociation** (43) — canon names it as a phase, not a pathology (Waypoint confusion-pair caution applies):
> "usually you have faces [sic — phases] then is that at some point the bit of dissociation, okay, where I'm at, what is this, I'm these, I'm not that." (S1)

**Expansion / stabilizing glimpses** (44–45):
> "usually there is a very big expansion of the experience and gradually it's not simply glimpses, but they expand and you have more and more… they become more and more stable, more and more intense over time. And you gradually start to feel it in more and more moments in your life." (S1)

**Devotional/mystical intensity** (~46, "Ascension"):
> "often you have moments in which you become very esoterical and you start to have these kind of very strong devotional aspects and mystical connected to deities and connected to… mystical experiences that arise very often when you're very intense in these days." (S1 — he anchors this at "46%" while pointing at the wheel)

**Compassion surge** (47):
> "you start to have a very strong compassion that emerges connected to very strong empathic understandings of other human beings." (S1)

**Detachment** (48) — and the canon's stated reason love training precedes it:
> "often this also ends up with some sort of detachment because the more you do it, the more you realize, okay, fuck, nothing makes sense at all. If this is true, nothing makes sense. **This is why we usually have very strong love training before, unless [sic — otherwise] it's very hard after.**" (S1)

**Equanimity** (49) — explicitly double-edged:
> "the more you enter very state of intense equanimity and intense equanimity is very hard because **it becomes a bit harder to even feel empathy to other people at some point**." (S1)

**Small death / proto-cessation** (50 — the Awakening→Unbinding boundary):
> "You have usually very often moments of small death. That is usually how it's called in traditions. We could call a **proto cessation** in the language of the Jhana." — "Then usually with the small death, you start really going to the deeper aspects of emptiness." (S1)

**Big death / full cessation — deliberately NOT on the wheel:**
> "sometimes I don't put it here because I've seen in my experience that it happens very rarely. We call the big death that is more like a full cessation. But from my experience… **most people don't pass through the big death**. It's kind of an extreme version of the small death and **it's not necessary at all**… it can become even an obstacle if you focus too much on reaching the big death… it becomes kind of addictive." (S1)
Extraction rule: a credible full-cessation report is strong evidence of ≥50 territory but is neither required for, nor by itself proof of, Unbinding-band standing.

**Unbinding onset** (51) — the polarity switch and suffering/happiness trade:
> "In my experience, this is often the hardest part of the path where **the polarity kind of switches**. Initially, you have to work a lot to get into these emptiness states, but then this **emptiness becomes sort of a tractor maze [sic — attractor maze/attractor]. It becomes harder and harder to not look at it.** Usually, the beginning is amazing. You have these brief moments of unbinding in which you feel much less suffering… fuck, I don't suffer. I can't suffer anymore as I was suffering before. And that's beautiful. **But then at the same time, you realize that you also don't feel happiness anymore, the same way you were looking before.**" (S1)

**Non-dual loop** (57) — named trap, including for teachers:
> "these loops in which in fact nothing makes sense anymore. Spirituality is usually probably the last thing that you have that you're still unsure to [sic]… I still have to practice to recognize this thing that I've always been. I don't know why, but in some way I have to practice, but **even practice doesn't make sense**… **Often I've seen that this is where many very advanced teachers crystallize here very often.** Even if they're very advanced, after they arrive here, it becomes some sort of a trap in which you think that there isn't anything else anymore." (S1)

**Deconstruction** (58) — the deeper layer past the loop:
> "a deeper layer… is kind of when **even the concept of spirituality itself disappears. Even enlightenment doesn't make sense anymore.** Even all my spiritual path doesn't make sense anymore. And there is this deeper deconstruction that arrives. **You become a little bit mad. There is a hysteria bit that emerges in phases.**" (S1)

**Void** (59):
> "you start to really embody the concept of void and emptiness. But then you start to realize that also at the same time everything emerges. So everything is empty, but at the same time everything emerges… you have these deep moments in which you become crazier and crazier." (S1)

**Luminosity + emptiness union → Enlightenment** (60→61):
> "emptiness, luminosity, these deeper aspects of reality, you start really to contemplate them deeper, deeper, **until you have an actual experience in which you really combine them and you are able to perceive luminosity and emptiness all together**… you recognize that they're inseparable and that they are one aspect of the same thing. Then you start to have this incredible experience that is Enlightenment." (S1)
And the canon's anti-endpoint doctrine: "many people have misunderstood this concept… **it's not a thing. It's not really an end point or there is no end point. It's kind of a change in phase**… that then is actually something that can be cultivated weirdly." (S1)

**Stabilization** (62):
> "when you start to have this experience, then you have to stabilize it. And often it takes time… to really stabilizing your experience that **you really experience reality all the time with it. It's not like something that you sometimes more, sometimes less, it's there.**" (S1)

**Integration** (63) — return from the void, freedom-of-meaning:
> "there is a very big integration phase in which you gradually come out from these void, empty aspects of reality and depression state, a meaningless sense of meaning, which **gradually you reintegrate into society and you come back to life**… usually there is a **deep sense of freedom** that emerges that, okay, nothing has meaning. **I can give meaning to whatever I want. I'm free.**" (S1)

**Reconstruction** (64) — with an explicit literature gap:
> "usually they start the reconstruction and the reconstruction usually is rebuilding. And for after the reconstruction, **there is a very little literature here, I have to admit**… no one really shared what post enlightenment looks like." (S1)

**Intensification** (65–66) — enlightenment as an intensifiable function:
> "There are **infinite levels of intensity** of it. So… once you stabilize and integrate it, you realize that there are ways in which you can intensify it. It's not an endpoint. **It's a function that can intensify, intensify, intensify**… there is a big phase of intensification that usually goes for a long time. **I've seen people for years**." (S1)
Includes a practice-return marker: "there is a phase in which even practice doesn't make sense anymore… But then there is a phase in which it comes back because you realize that you can intensify the state more and more."

**Escalation → plateau–peak ladder** (67):
> "in spiritual path you have these moments of **peak experiences, then you have long plateaus in which you integrate those peak experiences. And then you have, again, new peak experiences and then new plateau**… It's kind of a **ladder that you gradually climb** in some way of intensity of experience." (S1)

**Resonance** (68):
> "some resonance that emerges in which you resonate with these experiences more and more and more… You connect with it. **You cannot take your eyes out of it.**" (S1)

**Mergence** (70):
> "there are phases in which you really become so intense and you gradually merge with it." (S1)

**Blazing Bliss / the Great Blazing Blaze** (71+):
> "you can define it as a **very intense form of enlightenment** in which you are one with the great blazing blaze. That is the Dharmakaya, the Dharmadhatu. Technically, **the great blazing blaze is the Dharmadhatu, is the emergence of all kayas**… a bit like a psychedelic experience, which if you are aware enough, you can see all these fractal forms that emerge… **Usually it's very intense. It's very hard to handle initially, but then you gradually make peace with it. You relax in it**… and then you become one with this blazing blaze." (S1)

**Rainbow Body** (81+):
> "if you stay in the great blazing blaze enough long… **you bath into it and then you emerge from it… then you reemerge as the rainbow body. Then you bath again**… If you do it enough, this changes not only your mind, it's not anymore an awareness thing. It's a full kind of new system… **your sensations are changing. Your emotions are changing… your thoughts are changing and your experience changes completely… your reality itself changes**… you interact with reality in a much more flexible way." (S1)
Framed speculatively as "some sort of next human evolution… Homo luminous"; pure-land engineering beyond it ("if you have enough people that are in these kinds of states, even reality itself becomes much, much more flexible") is explicitly aspirational/esoteric.

**Reverse breathing** (Stage-2 attainment, not a wheel point — gates the sensations pillar into Stage 3):
> "**Reverse breathing is the essence, it's the door to all internal alchemy. If you're not able to do reverse breathing it's almost impossible to do internal alchemy practices.** So it's also called prenatal breathing, it's like the way infants breathe when they are in the womb, it's a fundamental aspect of internal alchemy." (S1)

**Ignition** (Stage-3 mechanism; S2 node between Reverse Breathwork and Awakening):
> "you create this kind of ignition that then helps you to intensify the states of non-dual awareness. If you do it enough, usually **ignition becomes glimpses of awakening** and very intense glimpses of awakening. Usually the **deconstruction ignites what we call unbinding**." (S1)

## 7. Phase phenomenology (fast variables layered on slow position)

The canon distinguishes recurring *phases* from position — exactly the position-vs-phase split the Waypoint spec formalizes (§3). Canonical phases and their signatures:

- **Dark night** (Unbinding-adjacent, ~52–59): "the more you go deeper into the emptiness aspects of reality, the more usually you have faces [phases] that becomes a bit empty, a bit depressive in some way that it comes in the classical **dark night of the soul**." (S1)
- **Low-X cascade** (52–56, sequential losses): "then it becomes a bit darker. What is meaning? And then **you start to lose meaning. Then you start to lose even empathy**, deeper aspects of empathy, **even knowledge of faith [sic]**, which is very hard to think. **Conceptual thinking becomes very complex.**" (S1) — the wheel encodes this as Low Pain → Low Pleasure → Low Meaning → Low Empathy → Low Knowledge.
- **Hysteria-adjacent deconstruction** (58–59): "I've seen many people, it happens like kind of a **dark tunnel** in which they enter and **is very, very similar to the depression state sometimes. But in moments they have glimpses of excitation, so kind of an hysteric, mysterious phases** [sic] that arise there where nothing makes sense anymore." (S1) — key differential vs clinical depression per the canon itself: interleaved excitation glimpses + embodiment of void-yet-emergence. (Waypoint must still treat dark-night-vs-depression as a confusion pair, not a solved discrimination.)
- **Integration phase** (post-enlightenment, 63): re-entry into society, freedom-of-meaning (quotes §6).
- **Practice-meaninglessness phase**: appears twice — inside the non-dual loop (57) and again post-enlightenment ("there is a phase in which even practice doesn't make sense anymore. You cannot stop creating and that is meaningless. You make it all the time. You're aware all the time."). Same surface report, two very different positions — an explicit marker-bank discrimination requirement.
- **Intensification phase** (65–66): multi-year, practice returns.
- **Plateau–peak ladder** (67+): alternating peaks and long integrative plateaus; a plateau is not stagnation.
- **Glimpse phases** (41–45): brief flashes, initially "mostly suffering", expanding in frequency/duration/intensity.
- **Devotional/mystical phases** (~46): deity-flavored mystical intensity as a normal phase, not destabilization per se.

## 8. Cross-tradition overlays (S4 `traditions` + `blocks`) — the canon's own convergent-validity table

13 traditions mapped onto the wheel (S4; SOME app seeds 17 — the four unmapped here have no block ranges in this export). Surya's method: "each tradition has its own power element… some traditions develop more certain aspects of the paths" — e.g. Theravada strong early-path systematization, Vajrayana/Vidyadhara strongest late-path maps, Paqo detailed early levels with a known gap ("no living teacher… is level four. No one knows how to reach the level five", whose scripture description "is a nearly blazing blaze state"). (S1)

High-value calibration anchors from the overlays: Theravada **nirodha-samāpatti = 51** and **Arhat = 61**; Zen **Return to Society = 63–64** (matches Integration/Reconstruction); Kundalini anatomical ladder placing 41–52 at/above the crown ("Top of the head" → "3 cm over the head"); the Paqo 46–70 blank mirroring the canon's own claim that mid-Unbinding→Enlightenment maps are the rarest.

## 9. Recorded ambiguities and internal inconsistencies (do NOT smooth in extraction)

**A. Two "stage" numbering systems with colliding names.** Wheel bands 1–10 (Emergence…Infinity) vs app path stages 1–5 (Awareness…Blazing Bliss). App Stage 1 "Awareness" ≈ wheel band 4 (31–40); app Stage 2 "Awakening" ≈ band 5 (41–50); Unbinding = band 6; Enlightenment = band 7; Blazing Bliss = band 8. S1 even says "the stage three was awareness" at one point (referring to the wheel band while introducing the app's Stage 1) — the teacher himself code-switches mid-sentence. Any marker keyed to a bare "Stage N" is ambiguous.

**B. Stage 4 name.** "Enlightenment" (S2, S3, S4, CM) vs S1's one-off five-stage list "…unbinding, there is **alignment**, there is blazing bliss". Probably ASR garble, but S1 separately describes Atiyoga as producing "these moments of alignment", so a genuine alternate label can't be excluded. UNRESOLVED.

**C. Sub-practice numbering & naming divergence (S3 vs CM/S1).** S3 (PROGRESSION OF THE WORK): 1.1 Posture & Mobility, **1.2 Sensations**, 1.3 Emotions, 1.4 Thoughts, 1.5 Awareness — five Stage-1 items, no Opening & Closure node; Stage-2 paths named **2.1 Breathwork (Inverse Breathing)**, **2.2 Integrity**, **2.3 Visualisation**, **2.4 Focused Attention and Open Awareness**. CM/current canon: 1.1 Posture & Mobility, **1.2 Opening & Closure**, 1.3 Sensations, 1.4 Emotions, 1.5 Thoughts, 1.6 Awareness; 2.2 **Love**, 2.3 **Clarity**, 2.4 **Intrinsic Awareness**; "Reverse" not "Inverse" Breathing. S3 also carries "2.2 Integrity — ? Steps (?? sessions each)" — literally unfinished placeholders. Treat S3 as an earlier snapshot of the same structure; do not key markers to S3 numbering. Same-numbered items denote different practices across the two schemes (e.g. "1.2").

**D. Step counts per Stage-2 path disagree.** Breathwork: S1 narrative "eight stages of breathwork" (classical Neidan) but app build per S3 "9 Steps (14 sessions each)" (9×14=126≈120 days) and CM names only 7 steps. Love: S1 "nine steps… 10 days each" (=90 days, consistent) but CM names 7 practices (9 if Compassion's Friends/Neutral/Foes count separately — plausible but unconfirmed). The timelines (120/90/85/98 days) are consistent across sources; the step decompositions are not. UNRESOLVED at the step level; trust the day-totals.

**E. 2.4 content was incomplete at recording time.** "I think we made only the first four… there could be some changes at the end of this one… there could be some changes in the structure." (S1) CM concurs ("some techniques are placeholder files"). The 2.4 sequence in §4.2 is the intended design, not necessarily the shipped content.

**F. Whole-path duration garbled.** "around 12 days, that is around one year and two months" (S1). Sub-path sum ≈ 393 days. Canonical reading: ~14 months for Stages 1–2 at good practice cadence; the "12 days" token is ASR noise. Flag any extraction that needs the precise figure.

**G. "Small death" placement straddles a band boundary.** Wheel: Small Death = 50, i.e. the *last point of the Awakening band*; S1 narrative embeds it in the emptiness/unbinding descent ("with the small death, you start really going to the deeper aspects of emptiness") and CM lists proto-cessation under Stage 3 Unbinding. Consistent reading: small death is the threshold event at the 50/51 boundary. For scoring: small-death reports are boundary evidence, not clean band-6 evidence.

**H. Hawkins LOC column is non-monotonic in band 3.** 21=101–129, 22=130–159, 23=160–199, then 24 Cooperation="LOC 100–299" (overlaps all three predecessors), 25=300–399. Likely a data-entry artifact in the Numbers table carried into seed.json. Do not use the LOC column as an independent ordinal check in 21–25.

**I. "Blazing Bliss" vs "blazing blaze".** Diagrams/wheel say **Blazing Bliss** (stage 5 name; wheel point 71); S1 speech consistently says "**the blazing blaze**" / "the great blazing blaze" (also the practice name, "Blazing Blaze Practice"). Same referent, two surface forms; both must hit the same marker.

**J. "Awakening" is triply overloaded.** (i) App path Stage 2's name; (ii) wheel point 41 / band 5; (iii) the S2 Stage-3 node "Awakening" (paired with Unbinding, fed by Ignition) — and additionally the terminal item of practice path 2.4. The S2 diagram places the Awakening↔Unbinding boxes in the Stage-3 row even though the band named Awakening is 41–50 and 2.4 (a Stage-2 practice) already targets "the experience of awakening if you practice well." Consistent reading: glimpse-awakening begins late Stage 2 (~41), intensified/ignited awakening is Stage-3 work; but the canon never states this reconciliation explicitly. Record which sense a marker means.

**K. Big death excluded from the scale by design** (see §6). Absence of a wheel point for full cessation is intentional, not an omission.

**L. Seed.json provenance path is stale.** `source.numbers_path` points at `~/LIFE/MEDITATION PATH/…`; the live artifact is `~/LIFE/content/source/meditation-path/0. Stages of Meditation/Wheel Tabel.numbers` (note "Tabel" spelling). Cosmetic, but relevant if anyone re-parses.

**M. Wheel "Dissociation" (43) vs clinical dissociation.** The canon uses the word for a normal recognition-phase ("I'm these, I'm not that") — directly colliding with the spec's equanimity-vs-bypassing-vs-dissociation confusion pair. A marker bank must not treat the wheel label as license to read dissociative symptoms as progress.

## 10. What the canon says a teacher looks for at each transition

The canon is explicit that assessment shifts modality up the path: early transitions are gated by **observable practice completion**, later ones by **phenomenological report**, and Stage 3+ by **live interaction** ("a strong interaction, a living transmission and collective dynamics that you can't have if you practice alone"). Concretely:

| Transition | Canonical evidence (per S1/S2/S3) |
|------------|------------------------------------|
| Entry → 1.x progression | Session counts and additive session grammar: each element learned, then combined; 7 completed full sessions gate Stage-1 completion. Pure telemetry — no phenomenology needed. |
| Stage 1 → 2 | Mastery of the combined awareness meditation ("Once you master this basic… you start to deepen your skills"); ability to traverse the sensations→emotions→thoughts→awareness cascade in one sitting. |
| Within Stage 2 (per path) | Gate progression: 14 sessions/exercise (2.1), 10 days (2.2), 5 days (2.3), 7 days (2.4); free interleaving allowed, all four must complete. Terminal skills observable/reportable: reverse breathing performed properly (2.1 — behaviorally checkable, "in contraction", later "with apnea"); boundless care (2.2); a functioning clear-vision practice combining visualization+sound+language (2.3); altered state from FA, non-dual awareness from OA, first awakening glimpses (2.4). |
| Stage 2 → 3 | **Reverse breathing is the hard gate**: "the door to all internal alchemy. If you're not able to do reverse breathing it's almost impossible to do internal alchemy practices." Plus glimpses of awakening and capacity for the pillar remap (clear intention leading, emotional ignition, full-sensory merging). From here on: live teaching, small groups, retreats. |
| Within Stage 3 | Ignition events intensifying non-dual states; glimpse intensity/frequency growth; the descent sequence (compassion → detachment → equanimity-with-empathy-cost → small death → unbinding onset → low-X losses); **trap detection at the non-dual loop** ("many very advanced teachers crystallize here") — the teacher watches for loop-crystallization vs the deeper deconstruction that dissolves spirituality-as-concept; hysteria-adjacent phases distinguished from depression by interleaved excitation glimpses. |
| Stage 3 → 4 | Capacity to "perceive luminosity and emptiness all together" and recognize their inseparability; energetic readiness for Tögal ("almost impossible if you don't have enough energy") with prior Mahayoga+Anu-yoga in-session competence. |
| Within Stage 4 | Stabilization ("you really experience reality all the time with it" — constancy, not amplitude); then integration/reconstruction (social re-entry, freedom-of-meaning, renewed function). Return of practice motivation after the meaninglessness phase is itself a marker. |
| Stage 4 → 5 | Sustained intensification: escalation events, plateau–peak ladder climb, resonance ("you cannot take your eyes out of it"), mergence. Blazing-blaze contact "very hard to handle initially" → making peace with it → oneness. Taught "very rarely"; population prevalence ≈ nil. |

Implicit in all of this, and load-bearing for Waypoint: **below ~41, the canon's transition evidence is almost entirely behavioral/telemetric (counts, gates, demonstrable skills); from ~41 up it is almost entirely phenomenological (glimpses, losses, loops, unions) — and from 51 up the canon asserts a teacher-in-the-loop is structurally required.** That is the canon's own statement of where a data-only estimator's information ceiling should start to bind, and it matches the spec's decision to treat interview-vs-dossier delta as the headline v1 number (spec §7).
