Two papers from the wave-1 list could not be legitimately obtained. Both were searched via 3+ angles (publisher, PMC/Unpaywall/OpenAlex/Semantic Scholar/DOAJ, institutional repositories, author/lab personal pages, Wayback Machine). No Sci-Hub/LibGen/pirate sources were used or considered.

## 1. Hanley, Nakamura & Garland (2018) — NADA scale

**Why missing:** Confirmed closed-access at the publisher (APA/PsycNet) by both Unpaywall and OpenAlex (`is_oa: false`, `oa_status: closed`, no repository fulltext other than PMC). The PMC copy is real, but PMC now blocks every automated/scripted download route with a Cloudflare or Google reCAPTCHA challenge page — confirmed across all of: the direct PMC article PDF URL, the legacy `ncbi.nlm.nih.gov` redirect, PMC's own Open Access API/FTP package, the Europe PMC render endpoint, and Semantic Scholar's mirrored PMC link. Every attempt returned an HTML challenge page (or a 404/JSON error) instead of a PDF, not a paywall notice — this is a bot-blocking issue, not a genuine access restriction.

## 2. Piron (2001) — Meditation Depth Index / MEDEQ

**Best link found:** None that serves the actual 2001 text. A 2025 Springer handbook chapter revisits the same instruments — Piron, H. (2025). Meditation Depth Questionnaire (MEDEQ) and Meditation Depth Index (MEDI). In *Handbook of Assessment in Mindfulness Research* (pp. 1019–1034) — but it is paywalled (preview only at https://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007/978-3-031-47219-0_41.pdf) and is not the original article.

**Why missing:** This is a niche 2001 German journal (*Journal for Meditation and Meditation Research*), published by the Society for Meditation and Meditation Research (SMMR), that predates most institutional-repository and preprint-server norms. It is not indexed in PMC, Unpaywall, OpenAlex, DOAJ, or Semantic Scholar, and no preprint exists. The journal's own web presence is gone: `smmr.de` / `neu.smmr.de` now resolve to an unrelated content-farm blog (baby massage, gardening, pet supplies — apparent domain-squat or lapsed-registration takeover), so even the society's own archive can't be checked directly anymore. Wayback Machine CDX API lookups for archived snapshots of the SMMR site returned HTTP 429 (rate-limited) on every attempt this session and could not be completed. ResearchGate and Academia.edu list only citation/abstract records for this specific article, not the full text.

## Note on a third borderline item

**Cook-Greuter, S. R. — "Nine Levels of Increasing Embrace in Ego Development"** was obtained (see `LIBRARY.md` #9), but only in its widely-mirrored ~2005–2007 revision (36 pp.). The specific "revised December 2013, 97-page" edition referenced in some secondary sources could not be confirmed or located — cook-greuter.com's current site is a Wix redesign with no direct PDF links, and Wayback Machine lookups were rate-limited throughout this session same as above. Not listed as a hard miss since a legitimate, on-topic, correctly-attributed version of the paper was obtained — flagging here in case the newer edition's additional content matters for this project.

# Wave 2: Missing Papers

Three papers from the wave-2 acquire list could not be legitimately obtained, all blocked by bot-defense/rate-limiting rather than genuine paywalls (or genuinely closed-access). Each was tried via 3+ angles. No Sci-Hub/LibGen/pirate sources were used or considered.

(2) Author's own Center for Healthy Minds mirror — now a genuine 404 (file moved/removed from that path). (2) PMC direct PDF endpoint — PMC's proof-of-work JS-challenge shell (the confirmed Wave-1 gotcha), same result across the legacy `ncbi.nlm.nih.gov` and current `pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov` domains. (3) DOAJ repository record — also Cloudflare-challenged. (4) ScienceDirect `/pdfft` endpoint — returned the article landing page (no static PDF link extractable without JS). This is bot-blocking, not a real access restriction (same class of issue as the Wave-1 NADA miss).

(2) Author's personal site (`rubenlaukkonen.com/publications/`) — paper not listed/linked there currently. (3) VU Amsterdam institutional repository — record exists, no direct PDF link found. (4) ResearchGate author-uploaded link — blocked (returns a stub, not the file) to unauthenticated/scripted requests.

## Note on a fourth borderline item

**Ehmann, Sezer, Treves, Gabrieli & Sacchet (2025), "science of advanced meditation"** was obtained (see `LIBRARY.md` #26), but as the 2024 OSF preprint rather than the final *Imaging Neuroscience* (2025) version of record — the publisher's direct.mit.edu PDF endpoint returned a corrupt/zero-page file on every attempt. Not listed as a hard miss since a legitimate, correctly-attributed preprint of the same paper was obtained; content should be substantively identical, but a human wanting the exact typeset version of record should retry `https://direct.mit.edu/imag/article-pdf/doi/10.1162/IMAG.a.82/2534587/imag.a.82.pdf` or the PMC mirror (`PMC12330868`) in a browser.

## Not re-attempted this wave

**Belsher, Smolenski, Pruitt et al. (2019), "Prediction Models for Suicide Attempts and Deaths"** (*JAMA Psychiatry*, DOI 10.1001/jamapsychiatry.2019.0174) — confirmed closed-access (`is_oa: false` at both Unpaywall and OpenAlex, no repository copy indexed). Only a ResearchGate page requiring login was found; not a legitimate OA route, so not downloaded. A human with JAMA Network access (or willing to request via ResearchGate) would need to obtain this one.
